Strength For The Journey

I was talking with a church member one day who told me a story. At the time, he was a younger man who decided to ride his bike home to St. Louis from Columbia, MO. This was a full day bike ride and all he took for fuel was a half empty box of granola bars. More than halfway through his journey, he stopped at McDonalds and with just a couple dollars grabbed as much food as he could get. It gave him the energy boost he needed and he finished the ride home.

Taking on a tough physical challenge that will last several hours requires having fuel for your body. Whether food, gel packs, hydration, or other sources; fuel is essential to success. It gives you strength for the journey ahead.

\All of us need strength to face each day. We need strength to bite our tongue instead of offering a sharp, mean-spirited response. We need strength to speak up and kindly address a sin issue. We need strength of not cut corners and be honest at work. We need strength to do what God expects of us in every situation we face each day.

This Sunday, August 3rd, we will have a message centered on this theme. Read Acts 20 to prepare for this message. We all need strength of the journey ahead. Let’s turn to God’s Word and find this strength together.

From, Your Friendly Neighborhood Preacher.
