7 Days Until Christmas!

Today we get more personal. We looked at a troubled world two days ago. Yesterday we looked at family strife. Today, it’s a heart at war. Your heart may be hurting this Christmas. In fact, I would bet your heart is hurting this Christmas. It could be for a number reasons, ranging from the previous mentioned items the past couple of days to something else. Maybe you are financially strapped because an unexpected breakdown has occurred. Maybe an appliance…say a dishwasher, broke. (That hits a little too close to home). Maybe you have a health problem you haven’t gone to the doctor for yet and you are worried about what it might be. It could be shaky employment. Your company is facing cuts.

Or maybe…this is where it gets really real for me; maybe your heart is at war with God. Not that you are fighting God or don’t’ believe in God. You are just wondering what God is doing. Why hasn’t COVID been taken away? Why hasn’t the pain of your relationships been healed? Why haven’t you seen the results you really believe will help make your life better?

I can’t answer that. I just know this leads us to a heart at war with God’s ways. We just don’t understand what God is doing. And this is where the Bible says faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of things we do not see. We are sure that God loves us even though we don’t see how that is going to play out in this situation. We are sure that Jesus is preparing a place for us even though we can’t see it yet. We are sure that God desires us to trust Him, even when we can’t see where our next footstep leads.

Finally, I am sure this Christmas can be the best ever, not because of presents, lights, family, or food (though I love all of that!). No, this Christmas can be the best ever because God took a step towards us by sending Jesus. Since Jesus arrived that first Christmas, we know we can trust God. Do that and you will have a wonderful Christmas.

Merry Christmas!
