17 Days Until Christmas!
I’m listening to Michael Bublé right now. He is singing, “I’ll be home for Christmas if only in my dreams.” That’s a reality for many of you this year. Some of you will be with family, others with only a couple of close relatives, and others will be home alone. The line, “if only in my dreams,” strikes close to home and is painful for so many this year.
But have you paid attention to the lyrics of this song? I had to look them up and read through them to fully understand what was being said. I realized the message was he would be absent at Christmas but that’s the not the real message of the song (as far as I can tell). To me, the message of the song is, “home is where your mind is focused.” He promises to be home, if only in his dreams. He says you can count on him to be focused on home.
Where is your focus this Christmas? Is it on what is absent or is it on Jesus? Are you more frustrated by what you are missing or are you more grateful for the new born king? Where is your focus this Christmas?
In my sermon Sunday I said (and my mom reposted on Facebook – Thanks Mom!), “Don’t tell God how big your problems are, tell your problems how big your God is.” God is bigger than any challenges we face this Christmas season. That does not mean your problems don’t matter. They do. And God wants us to share those problems with him. But let us never take our focus off Jesus. Do that and in some way or another, we will all be home for Christmas this year.
